We have a bright future in basketball IMO, some talents have chosen to study and be trained abroad with a dream of playing for the NBA..some are hidden talents from South and slowly they are being revealed..
In addition to Japeth Aguilar who is currently a Division I player of WKU, here's 2 other Pure Filipinos who is currently on a roster or being trained abroad
1. Gian Chiu
At 6 feet 10 inches tall, Gian Chiu stands tall in many areas. A standout varsitarian out of the Ateneo de Manila University juniors basketball program, he was spotted by American basketball scouts in a stint in China and was invited to come to the States to play basketball. He ended up playing with Desert Christian High School basketball team and was recently recruited to play at Oberlin, a Division III NCAA basketball school. A straight A student, he plans to pursue a career in medicine. We'd love to see him play for the Philippine National Basketball Team someday.
He played two years for Desert Christian high school in California before moving to Oberlin in Ohio. As a senior at Desert Christian, Chiu averaged 16.6 points, 11.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots. He hit .520 from the field, scored at least 20 points in eight of 24 games and fired a high of 29 in Desert Christian’s 62-48 win over Bloomington Christian. Chiu earned All-Conference second team honors and was named to the World Quest Academic team for being an A-student.
Chiu’s mother Mary Ann, a Metro Bank branch manager, said her son’s dream is to play for the national team.

Now here's a Fil-Am who is currently making noise abroad..
Matthew Wright
Matthew Wright is a 16 year old, shooting guard who stands 6'2". He averaged 21 points for the Martingrove Bears in the Toronto league. Philippine basketball fans posted this kid's profile at the interbasket forums. Wright could well make waves in the Philippine basketball scene soon.

We move now to very good potential players in the South, take note, they are in the South but their names are slowly being heard all over Metro Manila because of their recent performances..
1. Greg Slaughter
The 6-11 Fil-am center from UV green Lancers of CESAFI..he has improved a lot from his unimpressive rookie year and is counted upon right now by his team..

2. Junmar Fajardo
6'8, playing for UC Webmasters at the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc(CESAFI)
Noted as the next big thing..and he is only 18 years old
Touted a year ago more for his height and lanky figure than his ability to shoot a ball, Fajardo came a long way since his debut in the first Partners Cup. Yesterday, the 6-foot-7 behemoth showed a performance that was nothing short of spectacular as he scored a
whooping 50 points to lift Aspac Bank-UC to a 108-100 win over R. Lapid’s Chicharon.
What made the win even sweeter was that it was a come-from-behind and an overtime win.
“He was gone for almost a year from the basketball scene, but he had been in therapy and we had taught him a lot and he had improved dramatically,” said therapist Dr. Dejaño, who had attended to Fajardo after he suffered an injury during the first Partners Cup.
Record-breaking
Fajardo broke his own record in this competition. He
scored 40 points earlier in Danao, which was then the highest for the league. He is also the first player to have breached the 50-point marker since the 90s, a feat that was accomplished by Aldrin Ocañada.
