• It is widely presumed that Chicago will soon trade guard Kirk Hinrich now that the Bulls have drafted Derrick Rose with the No. 1 overall pick, with Golden State likewise assumed to be atop the list of Hinrich suitors given the void created in the Warriors' backcourt by Davis' departure. But NBA front-office sources insist that there is some sentiment in the Bulls' organization to keep Hinrich -- a favorite of Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf -- and play him at shooting guard alongside Rose while trying to move restricted free agent Ben Gordon in a sign-and-trade to fill another Chicago need.
Free agent forward Corey Maggette appears to favor the mid-level offer from the Spurs in the event that he doesn't receive a more lucrative offer, according to ESPN.com.
He's still hoping a team with cap space, like Philadelphia or Golden State, will enter the race for his services in the coming days.
A number of contenders are interested in adding Maggette, but all they have to offer is part or all of the midlevel exception.
Boston, Cleveland, Detroit, Orlando, New Orleans, San Antonio, and Utah are all known to be interested.

Two of the more important free-agent situations this summer will be those of Atlanta Hawks PF Josh Smith and G/F Josh Childress, who are both restricted free agents.
The Hawks are still coping with an unsettled ownership situation, one that could set back the progress of a team that showed promise by taking the NBA champion Boston Celtics to seven games in the playoffs.
General manager Rick Sund has let other teams know that he will match any offers for Smith or Childress. But if the offers are big enough, some league sources say, ownership could override Sund.

Yes, the Cavs want Corey Maggette, the Clippers shooting guard who walked away from a $7 million option. Like Boston, San Antonio and some other teams, the Cavs are offering Maggette a "full level exception" which starts at $5.8 million. The same is true of the other contenders. The one team with lots of salary cap room is Philadelphia, which has as much as $16 million available. The Sixers have been talking to Josh Smith, Atlanta's restricted free agent. But they also could swoop in and grab Maggette, who is unrestricted.

now the Cavs join the mix in trying to land CoMag. at the cost of MLE, CoMag is one hell of a catch and a sure offensive weapon to any team.
