Hi im new here lang po and saw this post interesting.. so let's see.. first what do mean ba with the word THERAPEUTIC?

According to
Mosby's medical dictionary:
therapeutic: came from a greek word therapeuein meaning to treat, 1. beneficial 2. pertaining to a treatment.

Bantam medical dictionary:
Therapeutics: the branch of medicine that deals with different methods of treatment and healing (therapy), particularly the use of drugs in the cure of diseases.

So from these definitions let's see.

Dito sa atin (pilipinas) the DOH endorsed the 10 halamang gamot: ampalaya, bayabas, sambong, lagundi etc...
so if you for example have diarrhea/stomach pain and then kumuha ka ng dahon ng tsaang gubat, pinakuluan mo and then ininom, and then gumaling yung sakit ng tyan mo or diarrhea. so by the first definition (mosby's) pwede natin iconsider na therapeutic yung tsaang gubat leaves. (kaya nga tinawag na medicinal plant). kasi 1. beneficial meaning nakakatulong and 2. na treat nya yung problem (stomach ache / diarrhea).

Pero sa according to definition no.2 (Bantam) sa branch of medicine (therapeutics) hindi natin pwede iconsider na therapeutic yung tsaang gubat leaves, since hindi naman sya DRUG. kaya nga sa hospitals wala ka'ng makikita na nurse or doctor nagpapakulo ng mga dahon-dahon para sa may sakit eh.

Food supplements and Drugs

Drugs: have therapeutic effect and side effects
therapeutic levels and toxic levels
they also have contraindications..ie. pregnancy,age

Drugs; considered as medicines, meaning "cure".
so drugs are used suppose to be to cure diseases..

Let's see take for example a simple disease: Migraine;
Migraine is a neurological syndrome characterized by altered bodily experiences, painful headaches, and nausea. It is a common condition which affects women more frequently than men. www.wikipedia.com)

So, is there a cure for migraine? you will say (ibuprofen, paracetamol, acetaminophen, aspirin, etc)
Well actually these are only for the symptoms of migraine, which is the headache. so when you take these meds you only solve the symptoms, but you still have migraine, later on you again experience headaches, and then inon ka ulit ng gamot- that's life..the truth is.. there's no cure for migraine.

according to the medical books: it is found out that 10% of all diseases is caused by germs(bacteria, fungi, virus) therefore can be cured using antibiotics..except for some viruses like HIV, etc. and the other 90%? (DM, lupus, asthma,cancer, heart disease etc) unknown cause and then considered as incurable and irreversible.. meaning you will have it for life. maybe there are some you can say that was cured from cancer and other diseases.

Food supplements:

Depending on the preparations, can be considered safe, and some people have claimed and proved that they got well. before food supplements was considered as "cure-all", so the FDA (U.S) can't categorize them and since their actions are unspecific. and no agency would want to test or research on these, since if proven really effective, then all the pharmaceutical companies producing synthetic or chemical drugs would run out of business (billion dollar business).

and dito naman, ang dami nga talagang nag labasang ads.. and minsan nakakatawa nga talaga and doesn't make sense sometimes, imagine you will take 1 capsule or tablet for each of your organs: (brain,eyes,heart,lungs,liver,kidneys,bones,joints,colon and pati blood?) para naman masyadong naging business lang talaga. although sabihin natin nakakatulong, pero 10 capsules a day? hindi pa kasama yung napakaraming forms ng VIT C.

For closing:

It is always our options po, pero important po na dapat alamin natin muna personally kung makakabuti nga ba ito, hindi dahil sinabi na ito para sa kidney, ito para sa Diabetes, ito sa high blood, bili naman agad tayo.

-magresearch po tayo, wag sa website nila, kundi sa ibang website.(3rd party) para hindi biased yung information.
-tanungin nating mabuti about the product, kung bakit dapat itake ito.

mahirap nga po talaga magkasakit, pero mahirap din po kumita pambili.

BFAD approved yung brand pero nung pina-test sa isang reputable laboratory, ang lumalabas eh lower than the advertised content yung laman ng products nila (250mg ang advertised pero below 100mg ang actual content).

so like i said, basta we keep in mind na these supplements are NOT medicine, i dont really think it's wrong to take them. pero syempre kung hindi kayo sigurado, it's always best to consult with your doctors first. kasi baka may ingredients din yan na hindi pala pwede sa inyo, makasama lang. sa mga gustong uminom, extra precaution lang talaga.

They are just food supplement... kaya talagang walang therapeutic claim yan hindi sila medicine...
pero supplements are needed to be tested like yung identification test noong mga active ingredients present pati mga excipient used ay tinitingnan yan some company kasi ay gumagamit ng mga ingredients na banned o hindi dapat gamitin kasi it might endanger your health madalas mga sub standard gamit nila... Like sa kaso ng melamine sinadya yun maybe para makapang gantso para mapataas ang protein content.

Hindi mali ang BFAD Hindi rin mali yung independent laboratory na nag analyzed ng Gluthatione dahil I'm very positive na magkaibang batch or yung tinatawag na Lot number yung analyzed nila.
Yung procedure naman sa analysis hindi basta po yan method lang... we need to validate the method bago gamitin para makasigurado na reliable ang method of analysis at ang mga parameters sa validation ay accuracy.. precision.. linearity.. robustness.. range... ngayon lahat dapat ng parameters na yan pasok sa standard.. di lang po yan pati po yung machine ay validated din.. standard operating procedure yan may tintawag po kami sa aming linguahe na Instrument suitablity test... checking the standard deviation after running at least 5 same concentration standard at marami pa po iba... bago start i-analyze ang gamot etc. May standard po na gagamitin against don sa gamot na in question. Di lang isa ang sample preparation po 2 to 3 sample preparation yan tapos at least 3 replicates pa...
mahirap pabulaan na mali sila kasi may guidelines at set of rules kaming sinusunod...

Ang gamot di nman isang gawaan lang yan per batch yan. Ngayon kung yung formulation scientist eh nagkamali sa computation etc tapos di nakita ng Quality Control nila lalabas nga sa market yun. Pero i doubt na nagkamali sila sa opinyon ko sinadya nila gumawa ng mga batches na substandard.. let's say in between good batches para di halata nga naman. Kasi po sa Pharmaceutical Quality control.. mula raw materials analyzed na yan ng mga analyst pati yung bagong gawang gamot hanggang sa finished product analyzed pa rin yan. Pano makakalusot sa kanila yun kung hindi intentional.... I Experienced rejecting some batches before dahil sa maling process or kulang ang active.... I wont take the risk na i-release ang product dahil lisenciya ko mapuputukan non not unless they are employing analysts who are not license to do the job.

walang masama sa mga supplement kung okay ang process ng pagkakagawa.

i definitely agree with your closing statement the only question now is, are the manufacturers doing their jobs right and processing these supplements with the highest quality assurance possible?

regarding yung sa glutatione thing, yeah, nabasa ko nga sa dyaryo yung sides ng bawat kampo. parang ang lumalabas ata eh sinasabing publicity stint lang daw yun kasi presidentiable candidate si mar roxas. na kesyo tinitira lang daw ni korina yung lucida kasi endorser nila si loren legarda (presidentiable candidate din). ay ewan! sakit talaga sa ulo ang pulitika

meron lang talagang mga mang gagantso... kung akoa sa inyo.. bumili kayo gamot from cGMP certified company.. ibig sabihin po kasi na pag cGMP certified sila... wala sila masyadong error or kaso sa BFAD ibig sabihin they are following the guidelines... di natin masasabi kung sino... siguro mas safe na yung approved ng BFAD kesa hindi approved.
